DAY 16

Today was a lot like yesterday, with one major difference: the wind was blowing from behind us most of the day! So, we got pushed nicely along and had to do very little rowing.
The canyon really widens out here and begins to look more like upper desert. We have more sky, less shade, and more wind. Also there are fewer places to pull out and camp.
This part of the Colorado River was once the back end of Lake Mead. But the lake being down by roughly 40 feet now, opened up 50 more miles of canyon for rafters. The
water here gets very shallow, brown and muddy. The shoreline shows the erosion happening and is very unstable; we hear and see sections falling all day and night. There is
a lot of brush along the shoreline making it harder to find a good camp site. With the wind persisting into dusk, I decide to forego the sticker bushes and sleep instead on the raft.
