Sometimes 3D rendering is too clean and perfect, making the flaws and anomalies stand out as errors. One way to hide those errors is to turn the rendering into an illustration. The advantage of 3D rendering first, and then converting to a line-drawn look, is that it is far faster and easier to render a different angle and lighting than it is to draw it. In these tests, I went through a variety of digital painting filters looking for a style that would work nicely to roughen up these character representations.
