The Archetype Project Logo
The Kimmappi Shaman are a group of elders located near Calgary Canada. They asked me to work on their Archetype Project, which is a system of 12 archetypal figures that represent human characteristics, similar to astrology but drawing from expanded mythical and cultural references. Here is the logo development process we went through.
I started with the orbit of six spheres…
And then crossed the orbit of a second six spheres, symbolically creating the intersecting confluence of the twelve,…
From there, I wanted to add a shaman figure wielding observing these orbiting bodies…
Feeling that these were too stiff, and wanting to create more drama, I switched to using an anatomically correct figure…
Looking for just the right positioning of the hands to show the wonder and beholding…
And then testing the lighting from a few angles…
And then, manipulating the image to get a hardline graphic…
And then I tested some rippling and other effects to see how that might make it more magical looking…
Also trying a less formidable and more unisex figure…
And after rejecting all the effects, I returned to this…and added font…
Ironically, after all the testing and work that went into the shaman figure, the client decided that no figure was needed at all, and we went with just the two orbits crossing…which you can see animated at the following link.
